Getting the word out about what our students accomplished through the project is also important. So below you'll find how we went about the dissemination of the project's results.

To widen the reach of our project we established a partnership with another project "SUPER4RTE", helped organize a fashion show and shared with the general public what the SkinDeep was all about. We also invited some members of our school community - teachers, staff and students -  to take part of it by sharing their talents where music and singing are concerned.

We organized a final exhibition to share with the rest of our school community what our students had achieved through the project and went to our teacher's lounge not only to explain what we had done throughout the project, but also to make them aware of what eTwinning was all about. 

Guest Speakers

Portugal - Madeira

Within the scope of the Skin Deep Project we asked Licínia Macedo, former Miss Portugal and now a well known TV-show presenter in our country, to share her life experience with our students, so that they would be given the opportunity to broaden their culture and their knowledge of what it means to be a model.

We didn't video the whole presentation since it lasted about an hour, but you can check out the Q&A part below.

So as to capitalize on our teachers' know how, we asked one of our Art teachers, Alexandrina Canha, to provide a one hour, hands on workshop, for some of the members of the "Associação Olho-Te"- A non profit organization which aims to help the dwellers of Nazaré - a social housing neighbourhood, near our school - to have a better view of their own neighbourhood, through the introduction of various artistic techniques. 

Alexandrina was kind enough to accept our request and gave them the opportunity to learn a bit more about how to apply makeup. The idea was to give them the tools to be able to feel better about themselves, by teaching them some simple makeup techniques.

We also asked Luís Vasconcelos and Alexandrina Canha (Art teachers in our school) to create a presentation on the "Evolution of the concept of beauty", so as to help our students become aware of the changes that concept has suffered throughout history.

Logo Winners - Prize

France won the logo competition and as promised we gathered some goodies related to our country and sent it over to them. It was great fun to have our kids thinking about what they wanted to share and a pleasure to witness the French students reaction when they finally got what we had sent them.

Here's to a happy new year, a happy school and most of all a happy life.

Be Safe - Escola Secundária Emídio Garcia

Luísa Lima wrote a text entitled "Be Safe", it was 1st published in November, in  the In English Digital - the British Council magazine for teachers of English in Lusophone countries. It is not directly related with the Skin Deep project, but it addresses e-safety, a topic that any teacher and student will surely benefit from learning more about.

Field Trips - Escola Básica e Secundária Gonçalves Zarco

Art has its own version of beauty, clearly showing just how subjective the concept of beauty really is. 

With that in mind we visited 2 different types of museums. On the 3rd of December we visited the Museum of Contemporary Art and on the 17th we visited the Museum Universe of Memories - a repository of memories built throughout the life of João Carlos Abreu as a journalist, traveller, poet, writer, politician, actor and artist, as he travelled through the world.

We asked our students to choose one piece from both museums and share their own interpretation of them, share what, in their eyes, made those pieces beautiful.

Here's a glimpse of the lecture on Art & Beauty the kids attended before visiting the museum. The museum staff was awesome and even gave their lecture in English to keep to topic of the English lesson and the project the kids are working on.

Merry Christmas - Escola Básica e Secundária Gonçalves Zarco

Looking to make the most of our own school resources and in an attempt to expand the reach of the Skin Deep project we have joined forces with another project in our school - the "Tutores Juniores". Together we have planned  a number of activities which meet both projects' aims.

The 1st activity took place on the 16th of December. Our 9th grade students - those who participate in both projects -  and the 5th graders they mentor were in charge of creating Christmas decorations so they could decorate a space in our school and share what they had created together with the rest of the school community.

The aim was not only to celebrate Christmas but also strengthen the 5th graders' sense of belonging, boost their self-confidence and ultimately ease their integration.

After the decorations were in  place we got together in the classroom of the Special Needs Teaching Unit where 6 special 5th graders awaited Santa's visit. Carolina, our in house Santa, did not disappoint them and soon joined us, spreading around laughter and the kids' sweet version of all the joy in the world: chocolate :)

Halloween :)

This is long overdue.
With so many things at hand we got a bit sidetracked, but it's finally here.

The challenge we set for our students was simple: one class would write halloween stories and then send them to one of the partner schools, which in turn would try to transform the written versions into digital stories.

So German students created the written stories and Portuguese students tried to create the digital versions. Check out what they did. ;)
