Starting from the idea behind the saying “Beauty is only skin deep” we want our students to think about how they let the word “beauty” affect their self confidence and self image. We want them to be able to go beyond the stereotypes, to be aware of how different cultures perceive “beauty” and how that concept might be used to bully and discriminate people.
We asked our students to read: Butter; Sara's Face; Indian; Eleanor and Park and afterwards create presentations, and journal entries while establishing a connection between body image and the story they had read.
